Symposium in United States highlights Nagorno-Karabakh problem

Recently the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University, the US, MA, played host to the two-day symposium devoted to Armenian – Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. The topic for the first day discussions was chosen to explore situation in the Southern Caucasus region from the standpoint of last year’s crisis in Georgia, difficulties in reaching a solution in Nagorno-Karabakh, historical and ethnic roots of the region, etc. Invited speakers included Azerbaijan Consul General Elin Suleymanov, Head of the Strategic Research Center Foreign Policy Department under the President of Azerbaijan Gulshan Pashayeva, representative of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy Fariz Ismailzade, Professor from Baku State University Erkin Gadirli and others. The second day of the symposium featured close discussions. Participants outlined that Armenia delays solving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict while Azerbaijan and Georgia are actively involved in large regional projects. Also participants said that a dialogue between the civil societies of both conflicting parties with an involvement of international community may contribute positively to the peace talks between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia.
