History has been and unfortunately remains one of the commonly used safe havens in which representatives of the parties of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict, usually far from the knowledge of basic laws of history, sometimes try to extract them with necessary arguments, links and other clues in favor of a solution model of interstate conflict. The essence of the conflict is utterly simple and obvious – the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and its affiliation (or, as now they say its “status”). In what plane should seek a solution to this conflict – legal or historical? What you should rely on determining the future status of the region – the fundamental documents of international law or these archaeological sites, migration routes, and all the annals of mankind?
In the absence of arguments from international law advocates redrawing the holy of holies the modern world – borders – often resort to arguments of a different nature, reducible to a primitive “you are not standing, and transferring the discussion to a completely irrelevant topic” autochthonous “and one” not-local ” other people. Lesson is usually meaningless, because in dealing with such knotty problems “historical information” (which by the order, you can easily make any flavor) is not taken into account, and eventually (not surprisingly!) Does anyone try to challenge the borders of Hungary, referring to this fact from the distant history? In Azerbaijan and Armenia each considers its indigenous people in Karabakh, and the opposite side – the descendants of newcomers. Armenians call Azerbaijanis “nomads of the Altai, Azerbaijanis Armenians -” newcomers from Phrygia. In support of its arguments, each party brings a lot of historical evidence. However, exercise is known to be meaningless, because the Armenians and Azerbaijanis now live where they live. All! Borders were drawn and recognized by the international community. In Azerbaijan, too many of those, who are not particularly enthusiastic about the same Stalin’s borders. Therefore, the essence of the Armenian-Azerbaijani compromise should be reduced to that in the XXI century borders must be recognized for what they have and then begin to work together on bringing down their values to the conventional level in the EU!
About 70 years ago in Europe, the river flowed in the blood and rearranged, with might and main pillars. Decade passed, heal the wounds of the world wars, and ethnic minorities in each European country have been, and remain. But often I think their representatives, to what specifically the Schengen countries and areas of the single European currency they live? Obviously, it is not every day.
