Adoption of so-called “Armenian genocide” resolution will have negative impact on US-Azerbaijan relations

Adoption of so-called “Armenian genocide” resolution will have negative impact on US-Azerbaijan relations“Every Azerbaijani should protest hearing on so-called “Armenian genocide” resolution at the US Congress”, Vice Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Bahar Muradova told official website of New Azerbaijan Party (YAP).

She said Armenians were trying to tackle events on Khojaly genocide held abroad: “While Khojaly event is true, we have to strengthen our struggle against the so-called genocide claims. Azerbaijani parliament strongly protests such issue. As a superpower, the United States can not be turned into voicer of interests of a group of Armenians and put aside serious problems of the world. It damages the US authority. It has negative impact on the US democratic image and its role in the development of democracy in the world”.

Muradova said adoption of any resolution on so-called genocide would negatively effect on US-Azerbaijan relations as well. “As a co-chair, the United States should demonstrate neutral position in such issues. It is not correct to take such action guided by the opinion of Armenian electorate. A number of presidential candidates in US promise to recognize so-called “Armenian genocide, and then become hostages of their promise. I consider Barack Obama administration should make responsible decisions on such issues”.

US House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs scheduled hearing on the draft resolution on so-called “Armenian genocide” on March 4.
