Azerbaijan is just to release its territories if Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict isn’t settled peacefully, Khalid Jamil al-Sarayrah, chairman of the Joint Headquarter Heads’ Committee of the Jordanian Armed Forces, who is on visit in Azerbaijan, stated at his meeting with defense minister, Safar Abiyev on July 17, Trend News informs.
The AR defense minister, Abiyev informed the guest about the military-political situation in the region.
Abiyev, emphasizing that over 15-year activity of the OSCE Minsk Group to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict peacefully hasn’t yielded any visible results, stated that if no result is gained in the peaceful conflict solution, Azerbaijan can take strong measures to release its territories from the occupation.
Armenia occupied 20 percent of the Azerbaijan territory – Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts. The occupation started in 1988. Until December 1991, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojaly. But in 1992-93, Shusha, Khojaly and seven surrounding districts of Nagorno-Karabakh were occupied too. In 1994, the parties signed the ceasefire agreement and hold peace talks till today.
The co-chairs to the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the USA, are mediating for peaceful solution of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The Minsk Group was established within the OSCE in 1992 with participation of 10 countries for peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Representatives of three countries – the USA, Russia and France have been represented in the Minsk Group since 1997.
