Azerbaijani political parties issue statement on “parliamentary elections” conducted by separatists in Nagorno Karabakh

The political parties represented in the Azerbaijani parliament appealed to the related bodies of the countries that observed the “parliamentary elections” conducted by the Armenian separatist regime in Nagorno Karabakh on May 23.

Press service of the New Azerbaijan Party (YAP) told APA that according to the appeal, conduct of the elections in the occupied territories by the unrecognized separatist regime contradicts the norms and principles of the international law, it is impossible to consider them legitimate.

The appeal says that the existence of the unrecognized separatist regime is the direct result of the occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijan’s territories.
“Unfortunately, despite the four resolutions of the UN Security Council, decisions of the Council of Europe and OSCE, the efforts of the European Parliament, Minsk Group, Armenia has been occupying the Azerbaijani territories for more than 20 years. Therefore, over one million Azerbaijanis have been displaced, our region has faced humanitarian disaster. The separatist regime of Nagorno Karabakh continues to exist posing threat to the security and peace in the South Caucasus with the direct participation of Armenia that ignores the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group and proposals of the co-chairing countries on the resolution.

“Election campaign” organized by Nagorno Karabakh separatist group in such situation is an effort to gain so-called legitimation in the opinion of the international community”.

It was noted in the appeal that this action directed to territorial integrity and sovereign of Azerbaijan, impeded the negotiations process seriously and served not for peaceful purposes: “Despite all efforts of Armenian side, world community – UN, OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, Council of Europe, EU and several other states had not recognized the so-called parliamentary elections held by separatists in Nagorno Karabakh. But, unfortunately, representatives of some countries became participants of separatists’ illegal actions by observing the so-called parliamentary elections in Nagorno Karabakh by entering our country illegally under the name of “observation mission”. Such actions directed to support of separatism and aggression are contrary to official position spread by states on not recognizing parliamentary elections in NKR, norms and principles of international law and became such representatives of observation mission joined this process as personas non grata for Azerbaijani society”.

New Azerbaijan, Democratic Reforms, Social Welfare, Citizen Union, Justice, Motherland, Azerbaijan Popular Front, Hope, Great Salvation, Musavat, Nation, Citizen Solidarity Parties have signed the appeal.
