“The continuous attempts of the United States of America to intervene in Azerbaijan’s domestic affairs are unacceptable,” said Hikmat Hajiyev, acting spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, in response to the US State Department spokesperson’s statement on October 15.
Hajiyev said Azerbaijan has fully secured the rule of law and the independence of the judicial system.
“Such groundless interventions by the US are the flagrant violation of the rule of law and commitments undertaken by the US. Efforts to use the issue of human rights as a foreign policy tool in order to exert political pressure do not work any more. Approaching human rights through political views, selective and double standards is inadmissible. It would be much more commendable for states, including the US acting as “heralds” of human rights, to take a careful approach toward the Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs, who have been deprived of their primary rights and the bloody acts of ethnic cleansing committed in Azerbaijan’s occupied territories,” he said.
