European Union along with the fact that Azerbaijan considers its main partner in energy security of Europe must also become proactive in resolving the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. EU is not playing a direct role in solving this problem and it should be integrated in the Minsk process.
This opinion was expressed by the general team from Belgium, Patrick Nopens participated at the international conference “Security and stability in the Caspian Sea region from the point of the new geopolitical realities” in Baku. He said that the EU can apply its experience in the Western Balkans to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Noting that the European countries have recognized the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, he stressed the importance of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in terms of establishing stability in Europe. P. Nopens said that the decision of the conflict with Armenia should be implemented resolutions and decisions of the UN, OSCE and other international organizations.
Noting Azerbaijan’s cooperation with NATO at a high level, P. Nopens said that official Baku has been actively involved in many programs of the alliance, as well as contributing to peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan and Iraq.
