I hope for progress in the process of settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict

“The European Union supports the idea of opening the Turkey-Armenia borders and normalization of relations between the two countries”, EU Special Representative for South Caucasus Peter Semneby, who arrived in Azerbaijan for one-day visit, told journalists at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport, APA reports.

Semneby said he wouldn’t like to comment on connection between the normalization of Turkey-Armenia relations and Nagorno Karabakh conflict. “I hope for progress in the process of settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. We are hopeful that the process of peaceful solution will be supported and achieve progress in the future”.

Semneby said EU was negotiating the Eastern Partnership program with the participant countries. “The discussions have started. We will continue to work for further improvement of our relations. The agreements to be signed with separate countries will cover trade issues, free economic zones, some aspects of free travel and other issues. It will enable us to strengthen relations in all specters. It will take a time to prepare the agreements, but such documents will create strong basis for mutual understanding”.

Semneby told APA correspondent that Azerbaijan and EU were looking forward to establish subcommittee for legal issues, freedom and security, which would address the visa issues as well.
