Chairman to the European Commission congratulated the President on his reelection and estimated it as an important factor for South Caucasia expressing his confidence that Azerbaijan will continue playing an important role in the region, the presidential press service stated.

Mr. J.M.Barroso also stated that Azerbaijan had demonstrated will to integrate into Europe by adopting the Action Plan on New Neighborhood Policy with European Union, and became an important partner for European energy security.

Barroso, emphasizing an importance of I.Aliyev’s leadership, stated that the European Union is ready to support Azerbaijan to implement the issues touching upon every field of the New Neighborhood Policy Action Plan.

Touching upon the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict, the President of European Commission expressed his hope that re-election of Ilham Aliyev as the President will contribute to the peaceful solution of the conflict.
J.M.Barroso expressed his confidence that the cooperation between the EU and Azerbaijan will successfully continue in the future as well.
