Members of Congress call for the repeal of section 907, to increase military aid to Azerbaijan and assistance to internally displaced persons in Azerbaijan

Co-Chairs of the Working Group (Caucus) on Azerbaijan of the U.S. Congress Salomon Ortiz, Bill Shuster and Rep. Eddie Johnson sent a letter to the chairman of the Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, the Supreme Authority of legislation Ms. Nita Lovey and deputy chairman of the subcommittee Kai Gringeru.

As reported by the U.S. Bureau of APA, the authors of the letter during the debate in the committees and subcommittees of the House of Representatives of the state budget for 2010 was recalled to his colleagues, some realities associated with Azerbaijan. The letter to the chairman of the Subcommittee in connection with the repeal of section 907 to the «Freedom Support Act» says: «The main foreign policy priorities of President Obama relate to the strengthening of relations with the Muslim world. We must first of all to reach out to the most loyal ally in the United States energy security and combat international terrorism – Azerbaijan, and to strengthen relations with the country». Congressmen also noted that the importance of Azerbaijan in the framework of the network of northern distribution in the backdrop of increasing operations in Afghanistan is seriously increased.

The MPs asked for an increase of additional financial assistance to the official Baku. The letter also noted that Azerbaijan is located between Russia and Iran, which is in the neighborhood, full of serious risks: «This danger may increase by assisting the American military forces in Afghanistan. We must support Azerbaijan as an ally».
