Nakhchivan’s future is and will always be the issue number one for us

“No one can doubt if Kars treaty is in force”.

“Turkey is and will always be interested in Nakhchivan’s future”, said Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu in his meeting Chairman of Nakhchivan’s Supreme Mejlis (parliament) Vasif Talibov, who is on a visit to Turkey, APA reports. The foreign minister told journalists after the meeting that Kars treaty, which is a guarantor to defend Nakhchivan from military threats, is always in force. “No one can doubt if Kars treaty is in force. This treaty has very strong positions within the international law. Turkey has the right of guarantor for Nakhchivan and it is one of the commitments of Turkey taken under the international law. Nakhchivan’s future is of the issue number one for us and it will always be so. Nakhchivan’s security is our security and Nakhchivan’s welfare is our welfare”. Davutoglu said Turkish Air Lines would do everything to open direct Istanbul-Nakhchivan flights and Turkey was considering opportunities to establish railway communication as well. Chairman of Nakhchivan’s Supreme Mejlis (parliament) Vasif Talibov said Azerbaijan and Turkey would continue friendly relations in all spheres and there was a basis for further development of the relations.

Chairman of Nakhchivan” Supreme Mejlis Vasif Talibov met with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He will also meet with Turkish President Abdullah Gul, State Minister Hayati Yazichi, 9th President Suleiman Demirel and Chief of Turkey’s General Staff Ilker Bashbug. Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the autonomous republic had no border with Azerbaijan and it was facing with threats from Armenia. “Our military cooperation with Azerbaijan and Nakchivan is an element of our relationship”.
