Opening of Turkey-Armenia borders before solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem conflicts with Azerbaijani interests

Opening of Turkey-Armenia borders before solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem conflicts with Azerbaijani interests“Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in his address to the Azerbaijani parliament in May that Turkey closed its borders with Armenia in a protest against the occupation of Azerbaijani territories and the borders will not be opened until ending the occupation.

The Prime Minister stated that Turkey would not leave its position without Azerbaijan’s consent”, Spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Elkhan Polukhov told APA. Reacting to the Turkish and Armenian move toward restoration of diplomatic ties and development of bilateral relations, Polukhov reminded about previous statements of Turkish officials about this issue. “Undoubtedly every country has a sovereign right to determine its relations with other countries, but this issue concerns the Azerbaijani national interests and therefore we consider that the opening of Turkey-Armenia borders before the solution of Nagorno Karabakh problem conflicts with the national interests of Azerbaijan”.
