OSCE Minsk Group approves negotiations under basis principles
The OSCE Minsk Group approves basis principles in peaceful talks over the solution of the Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict. “Co-chairs to the OSCE Minsk Group approve constructive meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijan Presidents held on June 6 in Saint Petersburg and call on the sides to avoid maximalist and aggressive initiatives or public statements”, statement of Mathew Bryza – the USA, Bernard Fasye – France and Yuri Merzlyakov – Russia says in the OSCE official web-site.

The conflict between the two countries of South Caucasia started in 1988 over territorial claims raised by Armenia against Azerbaijan. Armenia occupied 20 percent of the Azerbaijan territory – Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts. In 1994, the parties signed the ceasefire agreement and since then, the co-chairs to the OSCE Minsk Group are holding unsuccessful peaceful negotiations.
The co-chairs of three countries to the Minsk Group – the USA, France and Russia are mediating in the peaceful solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

“Military solution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is impossible”, co-chairs emphasize.
The next meeting of foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia with the co-chairs’ participation is intended to be held in Moscow on August 1.
