PACE President: “I’m concerned over the recent tension on the contact line of the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops”

“What I had hoped is that Armenia was a chair for six months, now it is Austria and then it will be Azerbaijan.

I had hope that both these countries would see this opportunity to find joint priorities for their respective chairmanships in particular to make commitments for the settlement for the Nagorno Karabakh conflict,” said PACE President Jean-Claude Mignon at today’s press conference, APA’s correspondent reports from Strasbourg.

He said that Armenia’s chairmanship took place in 2013 – during 50th anniversary of the Elysee treaty between France and Germany, which in fact brought together two enemies which has now become very close friends and allies: “And I felt if France and Germany can achieve that surely Armenia and Azerbaijan can follow suit. If I am elected as a secretary general of the Council of Europe, finding a solution to Nagorno Karabakh conflict would be one of my priorities.”

Jean-Claude Mignon also expressed his concern over the recent tension on the contact line of the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops.
