President Ilham Aliyev: “We will never allow our eternal land Nagorno-Karabakh to be separated from Azerbaijan”

“The priority of our foreign policy is a solution to Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Unfortunately no result has been attained in this direction. I can only say that Azerbaijan’s position, opinion and principles offered by us achieved great value. Talks are held according to Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity. No one doubts and no one can doubt about it”,
Ilham Aliyev, who was re-elected the President of Azerbaijan, stated speaking at the inauguration ceremony on October 24. The head of state said that successful development of the region requires a solution to “frozen conflicts”.
A solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be based only on the international legal standards and principles and Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity must be restored, the AR President stated. “Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity hasn’t been a subject of talks and won’t be ever. Nagorno-Karabakh will be never given independence – neither today, nor tomorrow, nor in 10 or 50 years. Azerbaijan will never recognize it. The international law principles should be applied for a solution. The aggressive policy of Armenia against Azerbaijan still continues. We are interested in continuing talks. We consider that the talks can result in a just solution to the problem. We would never allow our eternal land Nagorno-Karabakh to be separated from Azerbaijan. We’ll restore our territorial integrity by strengthening state independence. The international law is on our side”.
We have streamlined army reconstruction, the head of state said. He also said Azerbaijan’s military expenses were US $163mln in 2003, but in 2008 this figure increased up to US $1.850bln. “This sum will be increased even more within the next years”.
