After passing the registration in the AR Ministry of Justice in 2004, the Public Association for “Protection of Rights of Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Azerbaijan” started its activity. The principal aim of the Association is to observe regularly the situation in the field of protection of rights of migrants, refugees and internally displaced persons in the Azerbaijan Republic and abroad. The Association has assumed to fulfill the following duties to achieve its targeted objects:
– To draw up reports regarding the rights and living standards of migrants, refugees and IDPs in the Azerbaijan Republic; to translate them and spread throughout the country and abroad;
– To arrange humanitarian aid campaigns to assist Azerbaijani migrants, refugees and IDPs within the country and abroad;
– To show humanitarian and social aid to migrants, refugees and IDPs;
– To protect the rights of migrants, refugees and IDPs, as well as the members of their families living in the Azerbaijan Republic;
– To attract the international community to the settlement of existing problems faced by the migrants, refugees and IDPs in the Azerbaijan Republic;
– General propaganda aimed at the recognition of human rights of migrants, refugees and IDPs, as well as members of their families;
– To assist the application of the UNO International Convension regarding migrants, refugees and IDPs;
– To arrange monitorings of the development tendencies of legal and living standards of migrants;
For the realization of the intended duties the Association fulfills the following actions:
– Holds conferences, seminars and other events of civil activity;
– Implements information campaigns within the state and abroad;
– Works out information bulletins and other information mediums and arranges their free spread among the public;
– Enlists the services of local and foreign experts;
– Takes part in post-crisis reintegration programs;
– Fulfills social and psychological work and provides the isolated migrants, refugees and IDPs, suffering from inner crisis, with moral support;
– Instructs the organizations connected with refugees and IDPs;
– Ensures the implementation of social and health care programs;
– Realizes other measures within the frames of the law;
The Association works to deliver the realities about the Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict to the world community as well. The “Golos Karabakha” (the “Voice of Karabakh” newspaper published by the Association in English and Russian and its website in Azerbaijani, English and Russian languages, updated every day, includes the materials based on the proved facts and arguments that Karabakh is historical Azerbaijani territory and it has been occupied by the Armenian troops, the materials about one million people driven away from their native lands, about material and moral damage they underwent, about the plunder of ground-based and underground riches, as well as the destruction and burning of historical, material, spiritual, architectural and religious monuments and their armenialization, about the territories that underwent ecological terror etc.
As the Public Association for “Protection of Rights of Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Azerbaijan” we strive for forming a normative and legal base necessary for the protection of rights of migrants, refugees and IDPs.
