Resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict must be based on restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity

Resolution of Nagorno Karabakh conflict must be based on restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity “If decisions of international establishments are not fulfilled, then the confidence in them will decrease”.

“I express my gratitude to President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev for his efforts to turn the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia into a significant international forum. I am sure that the future of this organization will be prosperous,” Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said at the third summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) in Istanbul, APA reports quoting AzerTAC. President also commented on Turkey-Israel crisis.
“I want to express the solidarity of the Azerbaijani people with our Turkish brothers in connection with the deadly attack on the humanitarian aid ship in the Mediterranean Sea. We condemn this attack and support Turkey. On behalf of the Azerbaijani people I offer condolences to our Turkish brothers and families of the victims,” he said.

The head of state said Azerbaijan plays its role in the regional cooperation.
“We are completely sure that the regional cooperation, forecasting and joint activity in the region will reduce the possible risks and help to build the forecasted future for our people. The security measures in Asia are a part of the global security measures. We will not be able to achieve success without complex approach to the security measures. The fight against terrorism must be against all terrorist organizations in the world. There is no good or bad terrorist. The major condition of the success is to unite efforts against terrorism. At the same time regional cooperation and economic growth will contribute to the security measures in our region. Therefore, Azerbaijan is doing its best to play an important role in the regional cooperation issues,” he said.

Ilham Aliyev underlined that various projects successfully implemented in Azerbaijan create a basis for broad regional cooperation.
“Especially I want to underline the projects on energy security. At first these projects were launched as pipeline projects, but now they have become example of a very important regional cooperation beneficial for all participants. Azerbaijan is also contributing to the restoration of the historical Silk Road, the railway project, which we are participating in, will unite Asia and Europe, bring welfare to the peoples of the region and make it available to establish a broad transportation junction. In other words, security requires uniting of the efforts, economic cooperation and growth may be the way leading to success,” he said.

The President reminded that the internationally-recognized territories of Azerbaijan are still under the Armenian occupation: “One million Azerbaijanis have become refugees and IDPs as a result of this occupation. Twenty percent of our territories are under the Armenian occupation. This situation still continues. We have undergone ethnic cleansing. There is no any local resident in the occupied territories at present. The ethnic cleansing has been carried out there. All buildings, houses, schools, graves of our ancestors, our mosques and historical heritage have been destroyed in those areas. We demand the execution of decisions and resolutions of international organizations by Armenia. The Security Council of the United Nations has passed four resolutions, which unequivocally confirmed sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of frontiers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and unconditionally demanded immediate withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied lands of Azerbaijan. But the decisions of the Security Council are left on papers. Resolutions of the UN General Assembly, OSCE, OIC, Council of Europe and European Parliament, as well as other international organizations have not been fulfilled yet. Each country should fulfill the norms of international law. We are the members of international organizations and we should respect for the decisions passed by them. If those decisions are passed and not fulfilled, then the confidence in international establishments will decrease”.

The head of state noted that Azerbaijan tried to restore its territorial integrity by peaceful means: “Territorial integrity of Azerbaijan has been recognized by whole world community and international organizations. Resolution of Armenia – Azerbaijan conflict must be based on restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and status of self-governance and autonomy to Armenian minority in our country. I want to reiterate that Azerbaijan will continue making contributions to the security issues in our region in future. We will continue contributing to the economic advancement of the region within our endeavors”.
