Spanish parliamentarian: “The aim of our visit is to know more about Azerbaijan and enhance our friendship”

“We met with the delegation from the Azerbaijani Parliament in Madrid in November 2012. Now we have come to Azerbaijan at their invitation.

This is a friendly visit assisting the enhancement of the relations,” José María Chiquillo, the deputy of the Spanish People’s Party for Valencia province, member of the Foreign Affairs Commission, told APA.

He said they held meetings at the Parliament, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Economic Development, State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs.

“The aim of our visit is to know more about Azerbaijan’s economic, political and social life and enhance our friendship. We are here to know more about the social, economic and political development of Azerbaijan. We have an opportunity to know more about the current socio-economic development of Azerbaijan. It is interesting to see innovations and development in the country’s oil and gas sector,” he said.

José María Chiquillo said there is potential to enhance the relations.

“At the Foreign Ministry and State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs, we were informed about Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the most important problem of Azerbaijan. We were informed about the details of Nagorno Karabakh conflict that has been lasting for 20 years. A war weakens country from social and economic aspects. The parliamentary delegation is informed about what has been committed against Azerbaijan, international organizations’ resolutions on Nagorno Karabakh,” he said.

The Spanish parliamentarian said his country, as a member of the Council of Europe, wants to know more about Nagorno Karabakh problem, this is the main goal of the mission.

“But it is still early to say whether the Spanish Parliament will hold discussions, or pass a resolution on Nagorno Karabakh conflict or Khojaly tragedy. This is not included in our mission,” he said.
