Yusuf Halajoglu: “Dashnags suggest investigating genocide committed by Armenians in Turkey”

“Sooner or later Armenians will be obliged to establish relations with Turkey, because they will understand that they have chosen a false way”, leader of Turkish Historical Organization, Professor Yusuf Halajoglu said while commenting on Armenian President Serj Sarkisyan’s last proposal to Ankara about dialogue to APA’s Turkish bureau.

He stated the situation around Turkish-Armenian relations has changed: “The issue should be approached now from different points of view. Dashnags suggest that I investigate the real genocide committed by Armenians in Turkey. It is not easy to make Turkey to accept fictitious “Armenian genocide”. It is not easy for Armenia to retract their words as well. I estimate the issue as follows: If Armenians are frank, this will be proved soon. Unless Armenia doesn’t recognize legal borders of Turkey and stop aggression against Nagorno-Karabakh, I cannot believe in Serj Sarkisyan’s sincerity”.

Yusuf Halajoglu cleared up the issue regarding the proposal to pay $20 million to Dashnaks for access to Dashnak archives in Boston. “My proposals worried Dashnaks very much, because they didn’t think that we could develop this issue so deeply. Because the proposed sum is not a small one, and this proposal can raise Dashnaks’ interest. Sometimes they put forward some ready projects, but I state that we should discuss some issues first. Only after doing that, we can decide which work we can do”. Yusuf Halajoglu stated that similar proposals come not from Armenia, but from the West. “As you know, the main Diaspora committees of Armenians are in France and the USA. We’ll see how frankly they approach the issue. We regard Sarkisyan’s proposal within this context as well”.
