Ambassador Elman Zeynalov: “Mistakes in the textbook do not express the official position of Latvia”

“We are working hard to eliminate the mistakes”

Baku. Shamil Alibeyli – APA. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Latvia is probing the mistakes regarding the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan revealed in textbook titled “The geography of the new world” of the country. Azerbaijani Ambassador to Latvia Elman Zeynalov told APA that the embassy is seriously dealing with this issue: “If you are attentive, you can see that in the textbook, “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” is presented as a part of Azerbaijan, as well as the word Khankendi is written near the word Stepanakert and a small flag of Azerbaijan is attached. But it doesn’t satisfy us, because the flag of unrecognized regime is also shown in the textbook. We are working together with Georgians and Moldovans in this regard, because the territories of Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria are presented in the same manner.”

Zeynalov said these mistakes don’t express the official position of Latvia: “A map was published in Latvia a few years ago and similar mistake was made there. But then it was stated that it does not reflect the official position of Latvia. Latvia supports and will support Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.”

The Embassy of Latvia in Azerbaijan is unavailable for comment.

The textbook titled “The geography of the new world” published in Latvia for secondary schools has presented the occupied territories of Azerbaijan as “Nagorno Karabakh Republic” under Azerbaijan and pictured the flag of the so-called regime.
