Special envoy of the European Union on South Caucasia, Peter Semneby has met with AR foreign minister, Elmar Mammadyarov on July 31. After the talks, Peter Semneby stated they had discussed Azerbaijan’s role in the energy security of Europe, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, pre-election situation in Azerbaijan, steps taken to hold free and fair elections and other issues. The special envoy, saying they had exchanged views on the situation with mass media, underlined that release of journalists had not been discussed.
Touching upon Nagorno-Karabakh conflict Peter Semneby stated that preference should be given only to the peaceful solution. He emphasized the role of the OSCE Minsk Group in the process of conflict settlement and said they supported the co-chairs’ activity.
