No Armenian has the right to sign the protocols on the normalization of Turkey-Armenia relations

No Armenian has the right to sign the protocols on the normalization of Turkey-Armenia relations“No Armenian has the right to sign the protocols on the normalization of the relations between Turkey and Armenia,” former foreign minister of Armenia Vartan Oskanian said, APA reports.

He said that he supports establishment of normal relations with Turkey.
“But these protocols should not be signed in such a manner. By signing these documents Armenia will fulfill all the stipulations laid down by Turkey since 1993. Here also include refusing the right to get back native Armenian lands and “genocide” claims. Armenian people should understand that even if the borders are reopened, it will take place as a result of the compromises of Armenia. I would have never put such a document to the discussion of the people and would have never signed this document. I assure you that I do not envy the person who will sign this document. History does not like forecasts and no one can guess what will happen in future,” he said.

According to Oskanian, the document, which does not meet Armenia’s interests, was prepared hastily with participation of the third states, including the US and other great states.
“The reopening of the border favors Turkey, because Europe and the US exert pressure on this country. The reopening of the borders will have positive influence on the development of borderline regions of Turkey,” he said.

Former minister said only mass rallies and people’s will may prevent the signing of the protocols.
“Mass rallies should be held so that the authorities can understand that 70 percent of the people is against it. I do not agree to the views that the protocols should be signed within six weeks and it is impossible to change the date. President can refuse signing the documents and offer changes to the protocols,” he said.
