Updated version of Madrid principles is ready

Updated version of the Madrid principles on the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict is ready and the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs will submit it to the sides during the next visit to the region.
“The Madrid principles have been updated. We have worked on this at a meeting of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Krakow in late July,” the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair, Yuri Merzlyakov (Russia) told trend News over the telephone.
The new version will be submitted to the sides during another visit to the region.
A working meeting of the OSCE MG co-chairs was held in Krakow on July 25-26.
According to Merzlyakov, the OSCE MG co-chairs will visit Azerbaijan next week. In Baku, the MG will work on preparing a meeting between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, scheduled for October 10 in Chisinau.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the U.S. – are currently holding the peace negotiations.
