OSCE monitored contact line of troops without incidents The monitoring conducted under the mandate of personal envoy to the OSCE Chairman-in-Office in Borsunlu village of Azerbaijan’s Naftalan region on January 27 passed without incidents, the press service of the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry informed Trend News about it.

The conflict between the two countries of South Caucasia started in 1988 over territorial claims raised by Armenia against Azerbaijan. Until December 1991, Azerbaijan lost control over Nagorno-Karabakh except for Shusha and Khojaly. But in 1992-93, Shusha, Khojaly and seven adjoining regions of Nagorno-Karabakh were occupied too. In 1994, the parties signed the ceasefire agreement and hold fruitless peace talks under the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the USA till today.

Field assistants of the special representative to the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Imre Palatinus and Vladimir Chountulov conducted monitoring in the Azerbaijan side, but field assistants of the special representative to the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Peter Key and Irji Aberleh – in the opposite side of the contact line, i.e. in the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan.
